130 hours of Anatomy, Physiology, and Kinesiology, including system structures & functions, the components, and characteristics of muscle, location, attachments, range of motion, joint structure, functions, etc.

50 hours of Pathology, including indications and contraindications to massage therapy, area of caution, special populations

265 hours of theory and practice of massage to include techniques, remedial gymnastics, body mechanics of the practitioner, and the impact of techniques on pathologies. Hydrotherapy shall be included when consistent

55 hours of clinical business practices, at a minimum to include hygiene, records keeping, medical terminology, professional ethics, business management, human behavior, client interaction, and state and local laws.

MASSAGE THERAPY- 500 (plus 7 hours of CPR/First Aid and AIDS/HIV)

Rainier Massage Academy’s massage therapy program is designed to prepare graduates for the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) set up by the Federal State Massage Therapy Board and to qualify for an entry-level position in any phase of Massage Therapy. The instructing methods include lectures, demonstrations, analysis of sample questions, watching videos courseware, and hands-on experience. In the aspect of continuing education, we provide the curriculum of development in practical skills and ethics or laws. Theory and practice classes are integrated throughout the program and meet the following requirements:

 

  • 350 hours of study of sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, and Pathology) and massage theories in-class;

  • 250 hours of instruction of massage practice and/or clinic practice;

  • 32 hours of learning/instructing for the Certification that courses in American Red Cross first aids and American Heart Association CPR or the equivalent requirements are met

As we continue to adapt to the so-called “new normal” because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Rainier Massage Academy is also offering online classes through WeChat or Zoom. The training will be ongoing for a minimum of six (6) months. Certificate of transcript and diploma will be issued upon the completion of training and fulfillment of a financial obligation. We have upgraded our syllabus up to 625 hours of education since January 1st, 2021 to meet Washington State’s future minimum requirement of becoming a massage therapist. 7-hour training for CPR, First Aid, AIDS will also be added and the total training hours will be 632 hours. Tuition might increase accordingly. The current curriculum is listed below:

  • 600 hours of in-class, teacher-supervised instruction, taught over a minimum of 24 weeks.

Note: Students may receive CPR/First Aid and AIDS/HIV certificates online or from other institutions since being instructed by RMA( 7 hours). Additional costs for the certificates are not included in the table of tuition.
